Councilman Jason Maughan grew up on Sanibel Island where he rode the school bus to Fort Myers from the same Blind Pass neighborhood he lives in today. After graduating from Bishop Verot High School in 1989, he received his Bachelors’ Degree in Political Science from Stetson University ‘93, a Doctorate in U.S. Law from Gonzaga University ’96 and a Master of European Law from University College Dublin ’98, before returning home and opening a Firm on Sanibel to pay back those student loans. The Firm is successful and he and it have won Best Lawyer and Law Firm on the Islands 17 times since 2004 while very successfully representing local and international clients. Jason is recognized as a top 5% Florida Super Lawyer by his legal peers of all Florida Real Estate Lawyers, as well as construction, corporate and business law and litigation.

There is more to life than success in business and Jason has embraced that greatest Citizen Duty – to give back to the community that raised him and provided him the opportunity. To that end he has served as pro bono General Counsel and a Director for CROW, MedVets Charitable Foundation, Community Housing Resources, Sanibel School Fund, School Advisory Counsel and Children’s Education Center as well as citizen groups and individuals too numerous to name. He has coached the Island’s baseball, basketball, soccer and football teams and currently serves as the Scoutmaster
to Troop 1740 and Member of St. Isabell’s Catholic Church.

Jason is one of Southwest Florida’s best lawyers and civic activists. He is also a devoted husband and involved father.

Jason attended Bishop Verot High School, graduating in 1989, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Stetson University, where he was elected Senator for Off- Campus students and Chief Justice of the University Judicial Counsel, duties he gladly discharged even though he worked nights as a sergeant for the Public Safety Department. His proudest moment during this time came in 1993, when Jason became a United States citizen.
